Methylglyoxal Metabolism: Navigating the Path from the Known to the Unknown
Dysregulation of energy homeostasis in diabetes causes vascular issues. Type-2-diabetes (T2D) leads to macrovascular and microvascular risks. Treatment options are limited, but recent research identifies complication-predicting subtypes like severe insulin-resistant diabetes (SIRD). SIRD shows rapid complication progression with high insulin resistance and ectopic fat deposition. Our research focuses on understanding metabolic imbalances in adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, and liver, especially in high-risk SIRD patients. Through tissue sample analysis, metabolic techniques, and exploring reactive metabolites' roles, we aim to understand diabetic complication mechanisms for potential therapeutic interventions.
